Blockchain and our societies - an ethical appraisal

Event Details

The future of social impact is… blockchain.“ – David Hessekiel, 2018

The impact of blockchain technology on our societies is yet to be seen, despite there being many excellent plans and projects. Notwithstanding sceptical voices, blockchain has the potential to be a disruptive innovation. However, innovation does not have to be equal to societal progress. This is why we need to deal with ethical values behind blockchain. What use cases exist, where blockchain technology is not just innovative but yields true societal improvement? And what value proposition do cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology present for our societies? We will address these questions together with Monique Morrow, co-funder of „Humanized Internet“, Tobias A. Huber, PhD candidate at ETH Zürich with a specialisation in cryptocurrency markets, and Delphine Bracher, innovation ethicist at ethix – lab for innovation ethics.
